What insurance should I get for a long-term illness (ALD)?

For 4 years now, my husband has been on ALD; no one will insure him. We’re supposed to leave for Bali in May, and I’ll have to cancel the trip because of this insurance issue. His ALD is cancer. Just like with trip cancellation insurance, it’s not valid if it’s for his health reasons—health issues are considered foreseeable, so they won’t reimburse you. Big problems with Carrefour travel agency.

I’m also on long-term illness (ALD) and just came across your situation. I’m covered by my gold payment card insurance, but if something happens *because* of my ALD, I don’t think I’m covered. That said, I *am* covered for accidents, trip cancellations, flight delays, and lost luggage.

I know there are insurance policies that’ll cover you if you get a quote.

Hi Luan, I have the same card. If it's due to a chronic condition (ALD), there's no insurance coverage—no card, not even the Black card, covers repatriation. And trip cancellation won’t apply if it’s related to the ALD. We’re traveling at our own risk; hospitalization and repatriation are on us. The budget won’t cover it.

Okay, but you’re only covered if it’s related to the illness. For anything else, you’re covered.

I’m currently in Asia, and I’m really seeing the issue firsthand.

if the illness is known in advance—which it is in your case— if you were hospitalized 6 months prior, that’s the case, if you’re covered under a long-term condition (ALD), that’s the case, no insurance will cover repatriation or trip cancellation due to that.
