I swapped my first and last name when I made my reservation. I’d like to know if this could cause any issues for boarding or not? I have a layover in Istanbul on my way to Dubai.

Could you please point me in the right direction?

I contacted Turkish Airlines, but they won’t make the change. I called Go Voyage, they reached out to them too, and same thing—they won’t modify it...

So you don’t have a choice—you’ll need to cancel the ticket and request a refund for the taxes (they know which ones). Then, you’ll have to buy a new ticket. You can do this directly on their site (Go Voyages). Tip: Double-check what you’ve entered in the fields before confirming.

You bought your ticket on one of the worst sites (eDreams, Opodo, and Go Voyages)—they’re all part of the same group based in Spain. Many travelers have had tons of issues with them. As soon as there’s a problem, they do nothing. Always buy your ticket directly from the airlines, even if it’s a little more expensive. Only use comparison sites to check current prices.

My advice is to go as if you hadn’t noticed anything and see what happens at check-in. It’s very possible they’ll make the change without any issues, especially if you have a Turkish Airlines card and there’s no possible ambiguity (avoid names like Roger Pierre or François Michel). If it doesn’t work, there’ll be fees to reissue the ticket, and in my opinion (just my opinion), it’ll still cost less than canceling and buying a new ticket now. Get there three hours before departure.

Never call an airline for this kind of thing—actually, never call an airline at all...

Asking her to play Russian roulette isn’t good advice, especially if she’s coming from far away relative to the airport. It’ll cost her less to cancel and buy a new ticket well in advance than to request a reissue of the ticket on the spot. Traveling with that kind of doubt just isn’t possible. And of course, she should call whoever issued the ticket to see how to fix the situation. It happened on this forum last week, and Expedia agreed to make a free change.

If it were me, I’d probably also be coming from far away for this flight, and yet it’d still be my choice. It all depends on the ticket’s fare conditions. If it means losing 95% of the value to buy a new, more expensive ticket, you might as well take the chance—there’s nothing more to lose in that case. Still, it’s very possible the change will go smoothly at check-in. It’s not impossible at all, just unpredictable.

Personally, this happened to us with KLM tickets booked through Travelgenio. I mixed up all the first and last names for the 5 passengers. So we all had the same first name 😉 And we were able to travel from Geneva to Manila via Hong Kong and Amsterdam—several times it raised questions, but no one corrected our tickets or stopped us from boarding. Personally, I’d try without saying anything and just show my passport at check-in.

I don’t see any reason to cry. Canceling today, losing the ticket amount except for taxes, and buying another one will be more expensive than asking for a reissue at the last minute, at the counter, to resolve the situation. My opinion is still to secretly keep in mind that you might have to "fork out" a sum equivalent to the ticket price, and go in confidently as if nothing’s wrong. It’s still very possible that everything will go smoothly.
