We’re sharing this trip from July 2024—a pretty classic route for a first visit to Laos. An amazing country that’s still authentic and just starting to embrace tourism. Hope this gives some ideas to anyone thinking of heading to Southeast Asia!

Hi there, We’re not used to using a paper guidebook to plan a trip. Once we were there, we had the *Routard* Cambodia/Laos guide, but it wasn’t useful at all given how little interesting info it had for the Laos section. We prepped our trip by digging around online (blogs, forums, websites, Google Maps). Aside from the itinerary being more or less set before we left, we didn’t plan our days in advance. Once we were there, we just went with the flow based on how we felt in the moment. If you’ve got any other questions, don’t hesitate—but we tried to include as much detail as possible in our travel journal. Happy trip planning!
