Cambodia E-visa Problem

Hi there,

We’re heading to Southeast Asia for several months as a family with two teens (10 and 13). The first country we’re visiting is Cambodia. I’m having an issue with the e-visa—it won’t accept any of the documents I’m attaching. I’ve validated all four e-visas and received the registration numbers, but when I check the application, it shows no attachments. I’ve tried multiple times in different formats (PDF, JPEG, PNG), whether compressed or not, but there’s always a red cross next to the documents.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

hi. was the payment recorded? if not, don’t worry—visas are issued on arrival very quickly, just about the time it takes for your luggage to arrive. what needs to be done less than 7 days before arrival is the e-arrival form.

E-arrival cards can also be filled out at the airport upon arrival—no problem, there are tablets available for that. However, we're seeing more and more people having trouble boarding because the airline is asking them to show an e-visa and/or a continuation ticket (something Cambodian authorities don’t require).

I agree, e-arrivals can be done on arrival, but honestly, it saves time to do it in advance for a family, either with the app or online, especially since it’s validated immediately. We can repeat that an effort has been made for formalities—that it’s well-organized and fast. Nothing like Terminal 1 at Roissy. For example, there’s more passport/visa control staff in PP than at the departure in Roissy, even though the number of travelers isn’t the same at all.

For airlines, some might question the validity of a visa on arrival. You sometimes see a discreet phone call or a question to a colleague, but no long hold-up. It’s happened to me once. I showed them the previous visas issued on arrival in my passport. In the worst case, they’ll call their supervisor to explain. No need to stress.

One last reminder about passports: validity must be more than 6 months after the return date.

Hi there, I’m heading to Cambodia in November, and silly me, I didn’t pay attention to the length of my stay—especially since the dates worked perfectly for me (32 days!). That’s 2 days over the allowed limit. I read that there’s an option to request a 30-day extension in Phnom Penh (PP), which seems to cost $35. There’s also the possibility of just letting it "slide" and paying a fine for the 2-day overstay (about $10 x 2).

Of course, these are penny-pinching calculations, but since I’m traveling with my wife, that’s still $35 saved—enough for 2 nights on the ground ! What do you think? Are there any risks? Thanks

Hi there, Two years ago, my itinerary exceeded my 30-day visa by 4 days (flight departure). I was advised to pay the overstay fine. It was $30 for two days because checking in before midnight counted as 30 days 🤷. At the checkpoint, they immediately noticed the overstay, which I didn’t deny. I admitted I was aware of the fine to pay and that I wasn’t contesting anything. I paid $30, and it was all settled in 2 minutes. (No receipt.) The officer was surprised that, as a French person, I didn’t complain or claim I wasn’t aware... Safe travels!

Thanks Eric for your message. I’ll go ahead and do that. It looks like it’s $10 per day for overstaying. And where do we pay? Directly to the officer at the customs desk?

hi. the first person at the visa check on departure flags the overstay for you, then at the second check right after, one of the officers tells you the amount to pay immediately—it’s all done on the spot. in fact, it’s $10 per day of overstay. for those who’d stay longer, consider extending your visa beforehand. $45 at the official office, or add $10 if you go through an agency.

Good evening, This happened at the border police counter during passport control. He told me the amount, and I gave it to him in cash without asking for a receipt, since the sum was less than expected... This was in January 2023, late at night. He took the total amount for two people even though we were going through separate counters. Good luck!
