Layover in Kotor

Hi everyone, I’m going on a Costa cruise in May with a stop in Kotor. Does anyone know if we’ll disembark by tender boats and if we can explore Kotor on our own? Thanks for your replies! Have a great evening

Hi there, The docks at Kotor’s port aren’t very large, so most cruise ships anchor offshore. At the Tourist Office, you’ll find all the maps you need to explore the city on your own. It’s in a kiosk near the main entrance to the old town, so it’s not far from the dock. Like the maritime museum, the cathedral, and more—you can see a lot on foot. To reach the fortress, plan for over 2 km of walking and climbing more than 1,000 steps. But you’ll get an amazing view of the Bay of Kotor. Best regards

Ok, thanks a lot. Do you know if there are buses to get up to the fortress? Have a great day

Hi there, This is a trail that leads up to the fortress, not a road. I don’t think there are any buses. Best regards

Do you know if the disembarkation is done by tender boats and if we can visit Kotor on our own?

Hi, In May 2023, the Costa Deliziosa was docked, while another ship was at anchor... So both scenarios are possible. The old town is right next to the disembarkation point. It’s a really pretty visit and doable for those who aren’t great walkers :( Don’t miss the bay crossing—gorgeous landscapes...

The Kotor dock is only 300 meters long, so if there are two big ships, one has to anchor offshore.

For the bus, it’s impossible. Check out the climb:
