Visiting Lyon in 2 days with kids

Curiosaurel · 2025-01-30

Hi there, We’d like to spend 2 days in Lyon in May with our 8- and 12-year-old kids, exploring the city on foot. We’ll arrive on day 1 around 11 AM and leave on day 2 around 6 PM.

I’ve mapped out two routes and was wondering if they’re doable in our 2 days, and if you have any tips or info on visit prices.

We’re not sure where to stay yet, but we’d like to optimize by booking accommodation (hotel or Airbnb) between the two routes, maybe?

Thanks for your help!

Hi there

The first itinerary sounds good. It covers Vieux Lyon and Fourvière, as well as Croix-Rousse. You can adjust it to focus more on Vieux Lyon/Fourvière if you prefer. Plan to book a restaurant for lunch in Vieux Lyon (a *bouchon* is best). You can also visit a museum (miniatures, cinema, Gadagne, etc.) in Vieux Lyon. Or take a traboule tour—it’s really interesting.

For Day 2, I don’t see the point of this itinerary starting at Parc de la Tête d’Or and then going back to Confluence.

In a similar style, you can check out these Lyon itineraries.

You could also visit the Musée des Confluences, but it’s very time-consuming.

With kids, you might want to visit the interactive science museum near Place de la République, but you’ll need to book a time slot in advance.

Take a look at the itineraries in the link, and come back to share your draft plan so we can give you some tips!

Thanks for your feedback! I’ll look into this and come back here once I’ve fine-tuned my itinerary.

hi, it's a good idea to get around by metro because Parc de la Tête d'Or is far from Place Bellecour, for example. I know this well because I used to go there for my jog every Sunday 😛 Then, if you have kids, this park is the ideal destination because there are enclosures with animals. An hour’s visit is the minimum

Just a heads-up—there aren’t many animals left in the Parc de la Tête d'Or anymore! It’s changed over the past few years.

Hi there

Did you end up choosing a nice hotel in a particular neighborhood? Because we’re thinking of heading to Lyon this summer for 3 or 4 days.

Thanks

Hello, So in the end, which neighborhood did you pick for a nice hotel?

Hi! Try to find a hotel in Vieux-Lyon. It’s one of the nicest neighborhoods in Lyon. That said—and I’m tempted to say unfortunately—the price will be steep. Vieux-Lyon is the historic district at the foot of Fourvière Hill. There’s also the Tête d’Or district, but it’s quieter than Vieux-Lyon.

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m Lyonnais and I’ve put together a really comprehensive tourist guide to Lyon for you, with local addresses and tips you won’t necessarily find in the usual guidebooks. 😊

I’m currently working on a tourism project and I’m trying to understand travelers’ habits. I’ve created a short questionnaire (2 min) for this, and I need your help. 👉 https://tally.so/r/ob0rW1 👈

🎁 The Lyon guide is yours for free at the end of the questionnaire as a thank-you. 🎁

No sales, no solicitation. Just a few questions and a great guide as a reward! 😊

Thank you so much for your help! 🙏
