What to see and do in Qawra with teenagers?
Gwada057 · 2025-02-01
Hi,
We’re traveling as a family to Qawra at the end of February, from Sunday the 16th to Wednesday the 19th of August. I’ve got a few questions about the area—what there is to do during the day and in the evening. There are two adults and three teens aged 12 to 16 in our group.
I know the trip is short, but it’s an opportunity we got. If any forum members are familiar with the island, I’m all ears 😉 . Also, I’m planning to rent a car—good or bad idea?
Thanks in advance, and looking forward to your replies.

Hi there,

The situation isn’t ideal, especially for such a short stay. If possible, choose a place closer to Valletta—it’s more central and easier to get around.
Also, I’m planning to rent a car—good or bad idea?
Really bad idea! The car will be a burden—traffic and parking are complicated. The bus and ferry network works perfectly.

Thanks Herodotos! As for the places, we’ve already booked the hotel in Qawra. By the way, how late do the buses run in the evening? If worse comes to worst, I think Uber or Lyft should be available in Malta.

For buses, I don’t know until what time, but they run late.
As for Uber or Bolt, it’s common in Malta. It’s usually immigrants, who are very numerous in the archipelago, who provide this service as well as many others (restaurants, hotels, etc.).

Thanks Herodotos 😉.
For payments, cash or card?

Here’s the bus map:

You can check the schedules at
https://www.publictransport.com.mt/en/routes-timetables. Qawra isn’t the best-located spot for exploring Malta (it’s the end of the line).
Otherwise, I’d confirm it’s best to avoid renting a car—you can’t overtake in a lot of places anyway.

Thanks to both of you for the info—this is our first time in Malta, so we messed up with the hotel. Good to know for a future trip. I’ll take a proper look at the bus routes; we should manage with buses and Uber without breaking the bank lol. After 3–4 days, it’ll go by fast. But it’ll be a nice change from the capitals and big cities in southern Europe.
