What do you mean by "best"? 1-Are you looking for the fastest route, or do you want to visit some spots in the south of France inland and/or on the Côte d'Azur and break the trip into several days with multiple stops? For example, passing through the Gorges du Verdon (a stunning natural site). 2-Do you want to take the motorway (toll roads) or free roads? Or a mix of both? The fastest way is via the motorway: A7/A8/A12 towards Genova. You’ll pick up the A7 in Avignon (D942 road, 30-minute drive). On the motorway, it’s direct from Avignon—about 6h30 of driving, but there’s 130 € in tolls... Without tolls, so no motorways, crossing through Provence and the Alps takes 11 to 12 hours!
