Using a VPN to buy a flight ticket

Hi there, You can see all over the internet or even on TV that using a VPN to pay less for a ticket is a solution. I just tried several experiments with different VPNs, and nope—it’s not cheaper. I’d even say it’s more expensive or about the same. After some research, I read that this isn’t up-to-date anymore; airlines and reseller sites can now detect when you’re using a VPN, so the deal is null or even refused. The cheaper prices I found were here in France, departing from CDG for flights to Asia, for example, without a VPN.

I totally agree—using a VPN doesn’t guarantee you’ll get good deals on airfare.

A VPN won’t get you lower prices. However, booking a round-trip in the reverse direction is often much cheaper if you use one of the national airlines from one of the layover countries. Example: If you want to do a Paris-Rio round-trip, booking a Rio-Paris round-trip on Air France is sometimes way cheaper. Though it’s not super useful except in very rare cases. For instance, if you’re expats in Rio, you’d be better off booking your tickets as RIO/PARIS/RIO while you’re still expats and for trips when you’re heading back to France.
