Layover in Jakarta without luggage: is 2 hours between flights enough?

Roro31810 · 2025-02-11

Hi there, We’re traveling in May and arriving from Amsterdam at 6:05 PM, supposedly at Terminal 3.

Given that we won’t have any luggage to collect and our connecting flight (Transnusa) also seems to be at Terminal 3, do you think a 8:10 PM flight will work?

I’ve read a lot that 4 hours is recommended, but since we’re not changing terminals and don’t have checked bags, I’m thinking the formalities should still be manageable, right?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Hi there, 2 hours is enough if the first flight is on time, there’s no hold-up at formalities, and the second flight is in the same terminal. Terminal 3 is huge with some endless corridors—if your arrival and departure gates are at opposite ends, it’ll still be tight (last time I arrived with KLM, it was at the very far end and felt never-ending; luckily, I had a 4-hour layover). If it’s in Terminal 1 or 2, it’s not doable.

Don’t forget that check-in usually closes 1 hour before departure, so that only leaves you with 1 hour.

Up to you to decide :/ 😊

Hi,

I’ll keep this short—if you don’t have any luggage, you’ll still have to go through border control (unless you’re transiting internationally, and even then, it depends). So you’ll be stuck in the queue, which can be… really slow…

Good luck.

Alright, thanks to both of you, we won’t stress about it—oh well, one night in Jakarta! 😊
