Information on the EuroVelo Portugal route for a family trip

Hi, Like every summer, I’m looking for a (not too distant) destination to cycle with my family for about 3 weeks. I’m drawn to the EuroVelo 1 route in Portugal. Do any of you have information to share? Are there sections that are more or less difficult? Routes that are more or less safe? I’ve heard that Portuguese drivers aren’t very cautious on the road, especially around cyclists. Thanks for your feedback and experiences!

Hi there, I did it in 2020, and I posted the story online here: https://papydo2706.blogspot.com/p/portugal-2020.html Reading through it, you’ll see that I found a good part of the route quite challenging (before and after Lisbon), despite my cycling experience. Personally, I’d advise against it, especially with kids—unless you skip the tough sections and take the road instead. Since then, maybe some stretches have been better adapted for cycling. Dominique

That’s true, and unlike the Spanish, the Portuguese seem to drive just as poorly around cyclists as the French do.

Alternative: EV1 eastward, then continue to Seville?

Still, check the summer temperatures, even by the coast.
