claudio Y and I cycling around the PACA region
http://cbandiera.free.fr/recits/2018-N7/e6.phpWe quickly leave Cavaillon, grimacing at the Durance bridge and its bike path right next to the main road.
We manage to get lost in the middle of nowhere, among holm oaks and olive trees.
Choosing a heading a bit too far south, we head toward the Alpilles, which at first looks nice, but it’s the wrong direction.
We then have to pedal hard on slightly uphill roads with a headwind, while loads of Sunday cyclists zoom past without even noticing us.
The French Air Force patrol is off duty today, and as usual, we struggle to find our way out of the outskirts of Salon-de-Provence. Once again, we pick the wrong escape route and end up on a busy main road—unpleasant to ride on, but at least it’s quiet.
Luckily, just before the city, a fellow cyclist, Serge, comes to meet us and helps guide us through the metro area.
Then, after a few twists and turns around National Route 7, we reach Brignoles as daylight fades dangerously.
Trying to outsmart the route, we get lost in the countryside.
With the lights out, claudio struggling, and panic setting in to reach Brignoles and the Ibis hotel in the far corner of the commercial zone.
But phew! After a big surge of cortisol, thanks to a friendly gas station attendant, we meet up with Tania just 5 minutes before she would’ve stood us up.
It would’ve been a shame, because Tatiana, the red-haired Muscovite, has a devastating Slavic charm.
So, a solo shower and sleep at the Ibis in Brignoles.
