Safety at Retiro Bus Station in Buenos Aires

Hi, After reading a lot of pretty scary reviews about Retiro bus station in Buenos Aires, does anyone have any experience to share? Is it still doable during the day to catch or arrive from a bus? Is it okay to walk to the metro afterward, or is it better to take a taxi/Uber/something else right away?

Good evening, We arrived from Rosario at the Retiro bus station in Buenos Aires last September. We immediately ordered an Uber taxi at the exit to get to our hotel. No particular issues—everything went smoothly. Of course, you should stay alert and keep an eye on your belongings, but there’s no need to be overly worried. Enjoy your visit to BA—it’s a beautiful city.

Like in all bus stations around the world, there are minor incivilities, even scams, but nothing violent. I’ve encountered the classic "mustard scam"—an accomplice spills some kind of sauce on your clothes, another person comes to help clean you up, and a third takes advantage of the distraction to grab your luggage or bags. It’s a common trick in many countries. Taxis in Buenos Aires are safe. Life is very tough in Argentina right now, so obviously, never flaunt valuables, cash, etc. But during the day and with standard precautions, you should be fine.
