Passport validity for a stay in Thailand

Hi, I’m planning a trip to Thailand from April 1st to 24th. I’m flying with Qatar Airways. My passport is valid until October 7th, 2025. My question: For entry into Thailand, my passport is valid for more than 6 months (6 months and 6 days). For my exit, my passport’s validity will be 5 months and 14 days. Do I need to renew my passport, or is it okay? Thanks for your answers!

All visitors entering Thailand must have a passport valid for 6 months beyond the date of departure from Thai territory.

Thanks for your reply, but it's not clear. On the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs website and the Thai Embassy site, they only talk about entry requirements but not about validity for the return trip...

"Before traveling to Thailand, you must ensure—otherwise, you’ll be systematically refused entry by immigration police:

that your passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Thailand; that your passport isn’t torn, damaged, or has any particular anomalies, or you’ll be refused entry into Thailand."

There is indeed conflicting information out there. For example, on the Thai Airways website:

"Some countries, such as Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Australia, etc., require that your passport be valid for more than 6 months after the end of your stay when entering their territory. It’s up to you to check with the relevant embassies for entry and stay requirements for your destination and transit countries before you leave."

Make a copy, in English, of the info you find on the Thai embassy’s website, just in case.

I don’t know which airline you’re flying with, but you risk being denied check-in at departure. The airline is responsible for your flight, so they must verify that your passport is valid for 6 months after your return to France. Additionally, they’d have to bring you back to France at their own expense if you’re denied entry into Thailand. Get it renewed if you can.

The rules are simple: whether it’s six months at departure or six months at return, the requirement doesn’t change much in practice.

Logically, you should renew your passport between 10 and 8 months before its expiration date. Also, keep in mind that some visas (like the OA visa) require a validity of 18 months.
