Tips for multi-destination flights

Hi there, We're planning a trip to the Philippines but would love to spend 10 to 15 days in Vietnam to see what we missed due to bad weather a few years ago. Every simulation I've tried has turned out to be way too expensive... I know that for a departure around February 2026, it might be a bit early, but if anyone has a great tip.....? Thanks in advance

Proposed solution (what I've already done): a round-trip to a specific destination, then, from there, take on-demand trips to explore other places in Asia. On this continent, there are plenty of discount airlines like Air Asia.

Ex.: Manila round-trip from Paris; Manila-Ho Chi Minh City; Hanoi-Manila.

Hi there, A France-Manila round-trip flight on VN (Vietnam Airlines) with a stopover in Vietnam on the outbound and/or return. Basically, you turn the layover into an extended stopover for as long as you want during your connection in Vietnam—which you’d have to do anyway if you fly with VN. Plan this when you book your ticket. It could end up being the cheapest option.

What works for you is an airline that serves both the Philippines and Vietnam from Europe. You buy an open-jaw ticket—a multi-destination flight—then add a one-way on a budget airline between the Philippines and Vietnam, or vice versa.

The best solution is indeed a round-trip to BKK, then flights BKK/SGN and BKK/MNL.

But you have to return to BKK each time.

To give you an idea, with Vietnam Airlines, I did a stopover in SGN on a PAR/BKK flight—it still cost me an extra 200 €... I thought that was pretty expensive.

Since Kuala Lumpur is Air Asia’s hub, I’d also check for possible departures from that city.

I think Kuala Lumpur—or Singapore—are just as good as Bangkok. For example, Kuala Lumpur has lots of low-cost flights (e.g., with Air Asia) to all the countries in Southeast Asia. Singapore (e.g., with Scoot) also has a huge network covering the whole region at very affordable prices.

The only downside—you’ll need to plan "generously" for these flight changes in SIN/KUL or BKK, since they’re often low-cost airlines that can’t easily be combined with long-haul flights.

Still, I think AirAsia is considered the best low-cost airline in the world. Delays or cancellations—what airline doesn’t have them, even those that aren’t low-cost? It’s always annoying when it happens to you.

If AirAsia is to be avoided, I don’t see which other low-cost airline I’d recommend...

When I see an AirAsia plane that’s just arrived boarding passengers from the front while those who were on board are disembarking from the rear—completely ignoring civil aviation rules—I steer clear of this airline.

LOAKAN airport

This is Baguio’s airport. It’s been open to commercial flights since November 2022 (previously only private and military flights). It was "officially inaugurated" in December of the same year with a regular P.A.L. Cebu-Baguio round-trip flight, which was discontinued in July 2024 due to low demand. Nothing since then, and no info about future flights.

I think in the end, we’re gonna focus on the Philippines—we’re not really up for multi-destination trips…

What you need isn’t a multi-destination flight, but a Paris-Manila round-trip on Vietnam Airlines with a long layover in Vietnam. That’s the simplest option and probably the cheapest too, since stopover fees in the airline’s hub city are usually low—sometimes even free.
