Car rental in Moorea

We're heading to Tahiti in October and want to rent a car at the airport to then head to Moorea. Any tips for the rental? Thanks

Hi there, At Tahiti Faa'a Airport, you'll find 3 rental agencies. Hertz and Avis are located inside the terminal, while Eco Car is outside, on the other side of the parking lot (sign is very visible when you're in the parking area + slight uphill walk). The rules are the same with all 3 renters: Make sure "Moorea crossing authorized" is clearly stated on the contract. Except for 4x4s, driving on unpaved roads is prohibited. These special roads are usually listed in the general terms and conditions. Their vehicle stocks are limited, and so is the choice. It’s wise to book ahead on their websites. Eco Car is noticeably cheaper but requires payment at the time of booking, unlike the other two. On forums, it’s strongly recommended to be very careful about the car’s body condition both when picking it up and returning it (take detailed photos). With an early reservation, you can arrange to have the car delivered and returned at most major hotels in Tahiti. Some hotels even have a Hertz or Avis counter at reception.
