Day trip in Pointe-à-Pitre between disembarkation and return flight

Hi,
Do you know any companies or individuals offering day excursions for cruise passengers who disembark in the morning and have to wait for their evening flight, with luggage?
Thanks in advance

Hi Bernadette,
We’ve often faced this issue: disembarking in Pointe-à-Pitre in the morning and having our flight around 6 PM at the airport. We’ve never taken excursions to fill the day. We stay on board until about 2 PM and have lunch there. In the morning, we go out to check our suitcases, which are stored in a large hangar in front of the ship, and move them to a safe spot in the hangar if needed (there’s staff keeping an eye on things). We leave our carry-ons at the luggage storage, which is open for the occasion. That way, we can wander around in the morning if we want. Around 2 PM, we leave the ship after picking up our carry-ons and suitcases, then take a taxi. There are always taxis available. The fare is around 50 €, and last time, we shared the ride with another passenger who was also heading to the airport. We arrive at the airport around 3 PM, which isn’t too early—check-in is calm, and we avoid the crowd that shows up between 4 and 5 PM. Boarding in Pointe-à-Pitre is quite long and tedious with police and security formalities, but there’s no way around that.
Happy cruising!

From what I recall, if you leave the ship on disembarkation day, your card is deactivated and you’re no longer allowed back on board? I once disembarked at 1:00 PM in Marseille, and our two suitcases were the only ones left in the middle of that huge hangar.

Hi Laurence,
It’s true that during our last stop in Pointe-à-Pitre (December 2024), I got some comments when I returned on board. But I simply explained that I’d gone to check my luggage in the warehouse and was preparing to leave the ship for good a little later. However, I’ve never done this maneuver in Marseille. The port of Pointe-à-Pitre is smaller and more laid-back than the big port of Marseille. I don’t think I’d try it there. Every time we’ve disembarked in Marseille, it’s been for good.

Hi there, I rented a small car on the rentîles website with pickup at the port and drop-off at the airport for 35 €—that seems like the most practical and budget-friendly option to me! 😊

No matter what you decide to do, watch out for traffic jams—otherwise, you might miss your flight.

Hello,
Thank you, I’ll think about it. I’ve heard there can be significant traffic jams.

Hi,
I think the best option is to rent a car (not easy to find), because in the French West Indies it's hard to find rentals for just one day.
However, on sites like Rentiles or Zotcar, locals or professionals offer this kind of short-term rentals.
As mentioned before, be *very* careful with traffic jams in Guadeloupe—plan plenty of extra time...
Happy searching, and most of all, enjoy your cruise!
