We tried out different sections and it’s all very safe. If you're from Villefranche-sur-Saône, the "Vallée Bleue" toward Montalieu is really nice. There’s a section of the Via Rhona where you can rent bikes, and there’s also a lake for boating.

Hi Marie, Having done the Loire à Vélo and the Via Rhona—both fairly close to Villefranche-sur-Saône—the Loire is a thousand times more interesting than the Via Rhona, especially since the fun part is between Geneva and Lyon. After that, it gets pretty boring. Of course, that’s just my personal take...

Hi there, I’m not a huge fan of bike paths because I find them a bit monotonous, and you’re forced to pedal the whole time—I prefer going up and down hills. The only upside is there are no cars! We took it three years ago to get to Toulon to catch a boat to Sardinia. The Via Rhona has another perk: it runs alongside nuclear power plants. So if there’s a leak, well, not you, but the next generation might end up pedaling with four legs and have to modify their bikes. Good luck with your upcoming projects! Don’t worry about that—it’s way safer to ride near a power plant on a bike path than to pedal on an open road ;P
