Hiking the "Jordan Trail" without a guide

Hi there. Is it legally possible to do this hike without a guide? Thanks.

It's strongly discouraged, but yes, it's legally possible to do this hike without a guide.

Do you know why it’s strongly discouraged?

The main issue is that the trail is poorly marked or not marked at all. Some sections are even no longer accessible. The biggest risk is getting lost in arid areas with no one around. The trail is about 700 km long if you do it in full, so you’ve got to be seriously prepared to avoid getting lost over that entire distance! I don’t know the trail in detail, but I know it’s divided into several sections—maybe some parts are easier to explore solo.

Thanks for your informative message. Apparently there’s a dedicated site for this trail—I’ll check that out too. Thanks again.

Hi there,

It’s tough to answer this question any differently than Tripadvicom did: "it’s legally possible." So, it really depends on your experience and preparation.

I’ve only hiked two sections of the Jordan Trail. I did it without a guide. The two challenges mentioned seem to be the main ones to watch out for: - The trail isn’t marked: you’ll need to navigate with a GPS. - Water is scarce, so you’ll need to plan carefully and have backup plans in case the mentioned source doesn’t exist, is hard to find, has dried up, or is too dirty, etc.

I wrote a little summary on my blog: https://treketvoyages.wordpress.com/

Thanks Julien for your message—I’ll check out your write-up. I’m also thinking of doing just sections rather than the whole trail, which, after digging a bit, doesn’t seem unforgettable as a whole. And spending time in the cities, the Dead Sea, Red Sea, parks, desert, etc.

I think it’s a great idea! I don’t think the whole thing is worth it either. I had the same reasoning as you: pick the section that seemed the most interesting and enjoy Wadi Rum and the Red Sea the rest of the time.

Got it. Since my trip isn’t happening right away, I’ll probably reach back out to you if that’s okay. Thanks again!
