9-Day Motorcycle Itinerary in Morocco

Hi there! I’m currently planning a 9-day route starting from Marrakech with my husband. We land on the morning of June 13th—so soon! 😊 And we’re flying back to France on June 21st at 9 PM! We’ve rented two Royal Enfield 450s. This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍

In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.

For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day. Here’s the idea: Day 1 (departure at noon): Marrakech - Tizi n Test - Tafingoult (165 km - 4h15) Day 2: Tafingoult - Amzarkou - Telouet (200 km - 4h34) Day 3: Telouet - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne (200 km - 3h30) (+ Vallée des Roses maybe) Day 4: Boumalne - Dades Gorges - Agoudal - Todra Gorges - Tinghir - Goulmima (291 km - 6h) Day 5: Goulmima - Midelt - Cirque Jaffar - Agoudim (280 km - 4h45) Day 6: Agoudim - Imilchil - Aghbala - El Ksiba (280 km - 4h45) Day 7: El Ksiba - La Cathédrale - Zaouiat Ahansal (212 km - 4h20) Day 8: Ahansal - Ouzoud Waterfalls via R 302 (188 km - 4h22) Day 9: Ouzoud - Marrakech (160 km - 2h43) End of the trip 😮.

What do you think?

We haven’t booked any hotels—is that a problem? We were thinking of deciding day by day based on our progress.

Can we take our helmets with us in the cabin, or should we pack them in the checked luggage surrounded by clothes to avoid damage?

Hope the Enfields are in good shape! 🙂 The daily distances are reasonable, and we always find hotels. I’ve never managed to take my helmet in the cabin—good luck with your trip!

Hi there, I’m not a biker—I drive a pick-up, which might give a different sense of the challenges. The travel times (Google Maps?) seem optimistic to me.

Marrakech-Tizi n’Test: The estimated travel time is *very* optimistic. The road is currently under major repair/widening, with unpaved sections and temporary stops to let construction equipment maneuver.

Valley of the Roses: If you plan to explore it, I’d recommend planning a round trip from El Kelaa to Bou Tharar instead of taking either of the two tracks connecting it to the Dades Valley (Bou Tharar-Aït Youl or Tisquine-Aït ben Ali). They were reportedly badly damaged by last October’s storms.

Midelt-Cirque Jaffar-Agoudim: The section up to the cirque is a well-maintained track. After that, there’s a short, more "interesting" segment—narrower (about 1.7 m wide) and a bit rough from storm damage. Not sure if it’s been repaired since April.

La Cathédrale-Zaouiat Ahansal: Easy track, but after rain, the grip isn’t the same.

Hi! Day 2 has me scratching my head... Looks like an itinerary whipped up by some alien AI. 😎 Amzarkou seems to be known only to Google Maps. Either way, I don’t get the logic behind this route...

We like easy trails because I don’t have the skill level for difficult ones yet. Maybe later with more experience ;)

Hi there! Of course it exists, but apart from you, me, Google Maps, and the folks from Assif n'Tifnoute, nobody knows about it! Even Micheline, on her enlarged map, has no clue. That’s how remote it is :😉

If you like easy trails, the Jaffar Cirque section—and especially the direction you’re taking—will be pretty tough. I’ve got a Himalayan 410, and I did the cirque last year in the Agoudim to Midelt direction. Trust me, I was glad to do it that way—it’s always easier going downhill.

Yeah, that trail is excellent, and now they’re paving it—such a shame. La Cathédrale, that amazing rock formation, is a must-see. This trail is a great "easy" one.

Oh yeah! The track between Boulmane Dadès and Agoudal is no longer a dirt road but now has tarmac. Everything’s going downhill... Now it’s better for the locals to get to the nearby town, though. The excuse for this tarmac work is the 2030 World Cup, part of which will take place in Morocco.
