Good places to stay in Bari, Lecce, and Matera (no car)

My daughter and I are planning to visit Puglia in September. We won’t have a car. We’re thinking of staying in Bari for a few days, then exploring the surrounding area before heading to Lecce and finishing in Matera. Do you have any recommendations for hotels or Airbnbs?

Hi there,

In Bari, we had a hard time finding affordable and well-located accommodation, even when booking well in advance. We ended up reserving at JR Hotels right in the city center near the Petruzzelli Theatre.

I haven’t tried any places to stay in the other cities yet.

Hi,

"Doing Puglia"??? We tried, but even in 2 weeks AND by car, we didn’t manage to see it all! And yet, we wandered through 27 historic village centers—some well-known, some not—but ALL gorgeous (including the ones you mentioned...).

In the intro text on my blog page (below), there’s a link to click for my Excel planning/timing file.

Bari and Lecce are good bases for exploring the surrounding villages, BUT how??? Renting a small car there might be the best solution (plan your routes ahead on Goggle...Maps).

Getting around by bus... do some online research to check the options AND schedules!

Thanks for all this info—we’ve decided to go to Montenegro after all. Puglia will have to wait for next time! Claudine
