New ESTA after expiration

Hi fellow travelers!

I’m planning a backpacking trip to the USA for autumn 2024.

I’ve already been to New York in February 2024, but my ESTA expires on September 27, 2025. However, I’d like to leave in early September. Is it possible to apply for a new ESTA before my trip so that the new one is valid instead of the old one when I’m there?

What matters is only the departure date, so if the ESTA is still valid on the day of departure, you're all set 😉

I went through the same situation with an ESTA that expired during my stay and had no issues entering the US

hi, As BIggie mentioned, if your ESTA is valid until September 27th, you can use it to enter the United States!! The only situation where you’d need a new ESTA is if you’ve changed passports since your initial ESTA application (in that case, the ESTA linked to your "old passport" is no longer valid with your new one!)
