Extrawheel Wayfarer Premium vs Ortlieb Back Roller Plus Panniers

Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum! I’d like to buy some panniers for bike travel made of Cordura. I initially went for the Ortlieb Back Roller Plus, but while browsing the cylo-randonnée website, I came across the Extrawheel Wayfarer Premium panniers. They’re also made of Cordura, manufactured in Poland with German materials, and each has a 25-liter capacity—10 liters more than the Ortliebs. Has anyone here tried them or knows this brand? I know Ortlieb is super reputable, but I figured there might be other brands that are just as good. 🙂 Gabriele

I don’t know these panniers, but I have Ortlieb ones in Cordura High Visibility (front, rear, handlebar bag, and saddle bag), and I’m really happy with them. I’ve also used the Classic model in tarpaulin fabric, which worked great in terms of durability, waterproofing, and reliability.

In the past, I also had Vaude Aqua panniers, which suited me perfectly, though I ended up preferring the Ortliebs.

Recently, I bought Arkel Orca panniers, which, in my opinion, are absolutely perfect and super sturdy—the only downside is their price.

Extrawheels have a good reputation. The only potential weak point might be the mounting system? That’s also the main vulnerability (if there is one) with Ortliebs—some users report breakage there.

There’s also Crosso, also made in Poland, which is excellent (I’ve been using them for years). They’re made of Cordura, with a simple and nearly indestructible mounting system.

As a cycling tourism enthusiast, I regularly browse online forums, and it was a question about Extrawheel that prompted me to sign up for your forum :)

A few years ago, I had the chance to be one of the first users to test Extrawheel products—both their panniers and their new bike trailer. So I know a bit about this company, and I can assure you it’s the project of a true enthusiast, determined to create equipment that’s just as good—if not better—than Ortlieb’s.

I’ve tested the Rambler and Wayfarer models, which are absolutely on par with Ortlieb panniers. Excellent Cordura quality, sturdy and adjustable KlickFix attachment systems, modern design. It’s understandable to be cautious about a new brand, but I really encourage you to give this company a chance.
