How to book a Cairo–Aswan train?

The enr.gov.eg site says train reservations are only for Egyptians. What should I do if I want to book a first-class air-conditioned ticket (not a sleeper berth)? Thanks!

Hi everyone, that’s odd, because it *is* possible for a foreigner to book through the website. If you’ve got the time once you’re there, though, go ahead and book your tickets in person—either at Ramses Station or Giza Station—but at least 24, or even 48, hours ahead. There should be a foreigners’ window; locals usually use it too, but as soon as a tourist shows up they’re supposed to let you go first. For a seat, you can take the train at any time, even overnight, which is actually better—you won’t waste 15 hours of daylight sightseeing. Thoutmosis

Hello, The trains no longer seem to leave from Ramses but from Giza. You have to go through the commercial site for "premium" trains: https://abelatrains.com Payment is in foreign currency.

Hello everyone, Normally, when traveling from Cairo to the south, I always take the train from Ramses Station, or if I'm near the pyramids, Giza Station. But since in Egypt people change their minds as often as they change shirts, things may have changed since my last trip. I’ll check if there have been any updates. You can buy your tickets at the counters, but make sure to do it well in advance, especially for sleeper berths.
