What to visit between Recife and Natal?

Hi there,

We’re planning a 10-day road trip from Recife to Natal by car with our two kids (9 and 11). We’ll start by spending 2 days exploring Recife and Olinda, and finish with a few days in Pipa.

We’d love any suggestions for things to see, activities, or places to stay. Thanks!

You can’t swim in Recife—there are a lot of sharks. It’s a city with tons of cultural interests, a few museums, it’s great! I’d head north to João Pessoa next—it’s worth it with its endless beaches and family-friendly, safe vibe—before checking out Pipa, another 1.5 hours north. According to my friends in JP, Pipa is amazing! Natal doesn’t seem that great; it’s better to go to JP and Pipa instead.

hi there, one way or another I’d avoid swimming at the beaches in Brazil. Because it’s not really safe. Except for Buzios.

Thanks Mistelle! Pipa and João Pessoa are indeed nice. We made a quick trip to Coqueirinho—it was an unforgettable experience, both for the scenery and the beachfront restaurant.

Any tips for connecting with the Potiguara culture?

Thanks!

Hi Mathews, we swam in Pipa just 20 meters from dolphins in a glassy sea. I think the danger varies a lot from one beach to another, depending on the tides, etc.

?????

Brazil has hundreds and hundreds of kilometers of beaches—diverse, some ugly, some very urban, some amazing…

And for safety in the water, *bombeiros* are present on many beaches.

ahhh, I meant the beaches in big cities like Rio, Salvador... The police can't monitor every corner of the beach either.

We had our sandals stolen on Praia do Forte beach. I don’t think the turtles were in on it. Other than that, no security issues in Brazil—just stay a little alert.

Hey there, still wanna steal sandals, huh? How much do sandals cost anyway? A handful of reais, I guess. Good thing it wasn’t something valuable
