Tips for visits and agency recommendations for a Rajasthan tour

Hi there, my husband and I are planning to visit the maharajas' palaces in Rajasthan in 2026. We're looking for a fairly long tour (10 days or more). Do you have any tips on which palaces to visit, cities and places to discover, the best tour operators, and the best time to go? Thanks in advance for your advice and recommendations!

The best time to visit Rajasthan is between October and March, when temperatures are more tolerable or even cooler in the mornings. In July-August, it's monsoon season: it affects this desert region fairly lightly, and the rains bring a bit of freshness, even if the weather is heavy and humid. The upside is that the lakes are full and nature is greener. It's best to avoid April to June, which is the scorching pre-monsoon period when temperatures can reach 50°C...

You can't really say that 10 days is enough for a Rajasthan circuit—it's actually quite short. Plan for at least two weeks. There’s so much to see in Rajasthan that even a few months wouldn’t be enough to explore the entire region. Typically, the classic stops for a two-week trip include Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Jaisalmer, which have the most beautiful forts and palaces (among other things). But depending on the time you have and your interests, there are dozens of other notable places. You might want to do some research on your own using a guidebook like Lonely Planet or online to get an idea.

I can’t really help with tour operators or driver-guides since I almost exclusively travel by public transport, which, by the way, is totally doable. However, it’s easy to find local agencies in Delhi to build an itinerary. The key is knowing which agencies are reliable so you don’t end up disappointed.
