Smartwatch for the Camino de Santiago

Hi everyone, let me introduce myself—I’m Claudy Georges, and I’m from Belgium. I’d like to take on the Camino de Santiago. I’d love your thoughts on the type of gear to bring, especially smartwatches. I’m torn between the Amazfit T-Rex and the Garmin Fenix 7. I’m a total beginner and get lost easily, so having good gear is key. Could you shed some light on this for me? Thanks in advance.

Good evening, When you decide to do the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, it should first and foremost be to disconnect. Well, that’s just my opinion... So why bother bringing such a thing? By the way, what’s the point of a smartwatch?😕

I don’t see it as a pilgrimage but more as a hike. It’s just a really beautiful route to do. But thank you for your very helpful reply.

If it's just to record your route and time, an entry-level Garmin watch works perfectly fine.

What are your specific needs for this watch?

If it's just for hiking, I think there are much more interesting routes out there. On the Camino de Santiago: lots of road sections or big, monotonous trails. Why not try the Chemin de St Guilhem instead? It's shorter—max 2 weeks—but wilder, with beautiful natural sites all along the way. And if you've still got time, head a bit further south to the "Cathar Trail," another gorgeous route steeped in history...
