Paris in 2 days on foot: itinerary and feedback on my route

Hi everyone,

I’d love to get your thoughts on these two routes I’ve planned to see the highlights of Paris in two days.

I don’t want to take any transportation.

I’ll arrive at the hotel by car on Saturday around noon and won’t pick it up again until the next evening to leave.

**First day:** I’m thinking of starting from the hotel, then heading to the Eiffel Tower - Trocadéro - Galeries Lafayette - Élysée Palace - Tuileries Garden - the Louvre (outside only) and finishing at Les Invalides.

(The route on the map is just for reference to show the places we’ll visit—it might vary by a hundred meters or so.)

**Second day:** Starting from the hotel, we’ll go to Montmartre - Sacré-Cœur Basilica - Pigalle - Notre-Dame Cathedral - Panthéon - Luxembourg Garden.



What do you think? Am I missing out on anything great with this route?

Since I’m traveling with two kids, do you see any spots on these routes that might be a bit risky safety-wise? 🏴‍☠️

We’re not big museum fans, so we’re not planning to visit any—unless it rains, of course! 😄

One last little question: are there any protests planned in Paris on the weekend of August 16-17? 🙂 Thanks for reading! 😎

hi! The route you're planning to take is visiting the very touristy spots. I’d especially recommend crossing Île de la Cité and Île Saint-Louis—they’re beautiful areas. As for safety, there’s no risk in central Paris except maybe in certain arrondissements like the 19th and 20th. But you won’t be going through those anyway.

You're right—all the places we'd like to see are the most touristy, but since we're only here for a weekend, it'll be tough to visit the quieter spots.

Île de la Cité is on the plan, but Île Saint-Louis will be harder to fit in, unless the kids are still up for it 😄. I think we'll probably skip it.

hi there—2 days is pretty tight! On Île Saint-Louis, you’ve got the famous Berthillon ice cream. I mean, there’s *so* much to see in Paris. Just around Saint-Michel, you’ve got Rue de la Huchette, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and more...

Yeah, it's clear there's so much to see in Paris.

For rue de la Huchette and Saint Germain, I’ll make a little detour (Notre-Dame – rue de la Huchette – Jardin du Luxembourg – then head back up via Saint Germain before reaching Les Invalides).

It’s true, it’s really beautiful around there too, with the Butte du Chapeau Rouge nearby, but it’s starting to get a bit too far off my route.

In 2 days, you’ll have to make choices. Your route makes sense—Paris is best explored on foot, you’re right. The weekend of August 15th, Paris is empty, so you’ll have plenty of space to walk around. Paris is a safe city; I’ve lived here for 60 years. Pickpockets are mostly in the metro and touristy areas. If you decide to stay an extra day, consider the routes suggested by other contributors. The only downside: small shops and food stores are often all closed in August.

I’d say it’s on this kind of route that you really need to watch your wallet and phone...🙂

For my wallet, it’ll be well hidden, but for my phone, it’s clear it’ll be much harder to keep an eye on.
