Feedback on Southern Peloponnese itinerary

Aud39 · 2025-08-19

Hi there,

For a trip planned next summer, I’m considering this itinerary for a maximum of 3 weeks:

Kalamata Pylos Foinikounta Kardamyli Limeni? Areopoli Mezapos (just a quick stop along the way) Gerolimenas Elafonissos Then we’ll head back up toward Nafplio And Athens for the return flight.

My questions: - Is it possible to find a direct flight to Kalamata, or will we have to go through Athens for a domestic flight? - For Limeni, can we get there from Areopoli? - The drives from Gerolimenas to Elafonissos and from Elafonissos to Nafplio are a bit long—any ideas for stops? Though that might make too many stops overall?!

Thanks for your help in optimizing this itinerary!

Hi Audrey,

It depends on where you're leaving from, but yes, there are direct flights to Kalamata from Paris and a few other cities in France, I think. Check out Aegean Airlines at https://fr.aegeanair.com/ (a really good Greek airline) and low-cost carriers like Transavia, or even the website of the airport closest to you, which lists the destinations served.

Your itinerary seems quite packed—it means you’ll only stay 2 days in each place and change accommodations very often. Don’t forget it can get *very* hot in Greece, with temperatures up to 45°C. Even with a car with AC, it’s not much fun. So try to cut back or limit yourself to 3 accommodations max and explore the surrounding areas from there.

Also, keep in mind that picking up a car in Kalamata and dropping it off in Athens comes with a significant extra cost.

Hi Audrey

- routes a bit long from Gerolimenas to Elafonissos

We took just under 2 hours (driving at a relaxed pace) in the opposite direction for a fairly similar route (or at least it seems so to me): we landed (from Kythira) in Neapoli and went to Port Kagio. If that’s the case, it’s not too long 😉

Hi Elenitsa,

Thanks for your feedback. I’ll review and try to trim it down... Which stops should I definitely not miss, please?
