Bugs on VoyageForum

Hi,

Many of us have noticed that bugs have been making it difficult to navigate the forum lately.

I’ll let Kate and Ticapi explain the issue:

I went to your profile to check out the Thailand travel journal, and when I clicked on it, it brought me back here again. All week, I’ve been dealing with bugs like this—it’s really discouraging from continuing on VF.🙁

I had the same thing happen, and multiple times. For me, it was Montagnard’s latest journal that kept coming up no matter which discussion I clicked on.

Hopefully, a solution will be found soon.🙂

Same here. If I open a first link (including from a notification email), I always get sent back to the content of that link, no matter which VF link I click on afterward (including other notification emails). It seems like things only go back to normal after I close all my browser windows and reopen VF, or even when I turn off and then restart my PC (I only use VF on a PC). This bug has been happening often for about a week now, but not every single time.

I sent an email to VF on August 16th to explain my issue. The next day, I received the following response:

We’re experiencing some bugs at the moment. We’ve forwarded the issue to the technical team.

For me, the problem persists, though it’s slightly better if I use Safari instead of Google Chrome. I tried on my iPhone and iPad, but it doesn’t make any difference.

I won’t add anything to what you just mentioned about me except: When quoting someone whose message contains tags, you have to remove them or your message can’t be posted. This issue didn’t exist before. Hope that’s clear 🤪

Yes, Bruno, it's harassment. And you're persisting! I just accessed your message above via the notification I received from VF ("new message in the discussion..."). And now, every time I click on other forum posts, it's always you bringing it up again 😎

okay... I just closed my browser, reopened it, and went back to the VF site. Still the same issue. I shut down my PC and started again: no matter which post I click on VF, Bruno's message above keeps showing up.

Thanks for your reply. I get the feeling it’s often related to accessing VF from a link.

It’s been a long time since I disabled the “send an email” feature—it was cluttering my inbox with all the chatty messages you guys send. I access VF through the “followed discussions” section to see all the latest updates. Maybe that’s why VF works perfectly for me and I can keep pestering my fellow forum members 😉

It’s the opposite for me. When I click the link in the emails, I always land on the right page. It’s within the forum itself—when I try to switch to a different discussion or travel journal—that I keep getting sent back to the same place. Same thing if I go to my followed discussions; I always end up back at the one I was just viewing.

But as of this morning, it’s working perfectly. We’ll see how long that lasts…

When I click on the link in the emails, I always end up on the right page.

What I meant was that when you arrive on VF that way, it messes up afterward.

Yesterday, the only time I had an issue was when I clicked on a link in an email. Couldn’t navigate to another discussion after that. (Desktop computer + Android smartphone)

I thought the problem was on my end—I couldn’t make heads or tails of it! No matter which topic I clicked, it kept taking me back to the start of the same travel journal I’d already read...

Glad to hear it’s a general issue! 🙂 Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

A suggestion from the developer to try and pinpoint the issue. Could you try browsing VF in a Chrome private/incognito window and let us know if you're still experiencing the problem?

If you can take a video capture of your screen when the bug happens, that would be super helpful for the developers. And here’s the info we need:

- What device were you using when the issue occurred? (Computer, phone, tablet) - Which browser did the problem happen on? (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, etc.) - Describe the issue you encountered as precisely and thoroughly as possible. - Include screenshots and add the URL(s) of the page(s) where you ran into the problem. Thanks in advance! This will help us try to reproduce the bug.

hi again, As for me, I do everything on my computer using Google Chrome. I’ll send you a screenshot as soon as it happens to me. For me, it’s when I try to edit a post (a red sentence tells me I can’t edit it because it’s been deleted). So I try again 2-3 times and then give up, checking that my post hasn’t actually been deleted—which it never has. I’ll send that to you as soon as I can! 😅

I clicked on an email link this morning.

An hour later, I logged into the site and couldn’t access any discussion other than the one from the link.

So I followed your recommendation—private browsing. Everything was fine then.

Yes, the first name and family name of members. I discovered this while searching for someone I had met on another site.

Here’s the page that opens with the URL when I try to edit a message on my computer using Chrome. 😅

For me, since yesterday, no more issues—I even clicked on links from several travel journals (iPad with Chrome). Let’s hope it stays that way!

Following my previous message, I had issues after clicking a link in an email sent by VF (for MirandaMouse’s travel journal). After that, every time I tried to view another page, I ended up back in MirandaMouse’s travel journal. So there’s definitely a problem with the links.

Oops, I don’t have it anymore unfortunately—I cleared my deleted emails yesterday. I can try with a VF email I’ve received since then.

I just tried with two other emails I received after a discussion I started, and there’s no problem at all. Next time, if there’s an issue, I’ll send you the email at the address you provided.

Ever since I clicked on the link, I keep getting redirected to the thread "Your recommendations for 20 days in Thailand". I can't access any other page. Besides, to get the email address from that thread and be able to write to you, I had to log in using Safari instead of Chrome. I did it on another device.

it’s the same for everyone every day—you just have to wait an hour or two, and then it works (no need to change anything in Chrome or anything else).

Yes, but not everyone wants to wait for hours for everything to become functional again. I think this could discourage some members from continuing on VF. So I think it’s important for members to help the IT team fix this issue by giving them information.

If that were the only problem, I suggested in this same section, I think, to add the "reply" function to all discussions, without quoting other contributors but replying to a topic in general. I'm still waiting for an answer—they're probably swamped trying to recover the whole forum 😅

I found a workaround for what you mentioned while waiting for the fixes—you have to go into the forum emails you moved to the trash, click on them again, and once you're back in the forum, search for the discussion you want. That works. But what seems most urgent to fix is that we can’t edit a sent message—the page always says the message was deleted when it actually wasn’t.

Today I couldn't open any thread on my smartphone. Every click took me to the same discussion (maybe the last one I viewed?), whether it was via an email or directly on the site.

This evening, I'm on my iPad, and when I try to open a discussion, a window pops up: "Do you want to download Les voyageurs...blabla on Voyage Forum?"

However, I was able to open this bug discussion without any issues. One minute it works, the next it doesn't. One minute it's the smartphone, the next it's the iPad. And often, it keeps loading forever. It's really frustrating...

While waiting for the admins to find solutions, I’ll share my method—I’ve never had any issues, whether on iPhone or iPad:

Hi, Well, there’s an even simpler way: grab an old VF email about a discussion from your trash, and browse the topics you want to read. As for the emails sent whenever there’s news, just don’t click “follow” on any discussion in the forum (it’s that easy) 😄

A new bug has appeared on the site: some posts are being sent straight to the trash, sometimes right after they're published, and sometimes months later.

This is a bug! We aren’t deleting your posts for fun. We’re still trying to figure out the cause of the other issues you’ve reported—it’s taking a while because, as we’ve mentioned, these bugs pop up completely at random.

Thanks for your patience, and we know it’s really annoying for your daily browsing on VF.

We’re still looking into the cause of the other malfunctions reported. It’s taking a while because, as we’ve mentioned, these bugs appear completely at random.

Things briefly went back to normal, but now the issues are back for good: no emails from VF to notify me of a new PM or a reply to a public post. I don’t have any followed discussions and browse VF based on the green dots indicating new discussions or messages. Maybe that’s why I’ve never encountered any of the many problems mentioned above.

Some posts go straight to the trash, sometimes right after being published, sometimes months later. It’s a bug !

Or maybe not. Have you considered some kind of guardian intervention, a protective force watching over VF... and sending straight to the trash messages that should’ve ended up there on their own? 🙂

Hi, I’ve had a new bug on my computer for the past two days—I no longer receive the emails that notify me of new messages in any of my followed threads 😅

On the homepage, the 🟢 marks in front of each section title—which indicate one or more new discussion(s)—stay green instead of turning neutral O when there are no new topics... or becoming neutral when all messages are marked as read.
