Kaysersberg or Colmar for an afternoon visit?

We’ll be back from a river cruise with a stop in Strasbourg for just the afternoon and evening. We’d like to spend the afternoon in either Colmar or Kaysersberg and then return to Strasbourg for dinner and a stroll afterward. I’d love your advice on which spot—Colmar or Kaysersberg—you’d recommend. I’ve noticed there’s a bus line 145 that runs from Colmar to Kaysersberg, taking about 40 minutes and costing around 5 €.

Is there a train or another way to get directly from Strasbourg that’s quick and affordable? I think a taxi would be pretty expensive. The issue is we don’t have much time—our flight is the next morning. We’ve already visited Strasbourg, Colmar, Eguisheim, Ribeauvillé, and Riquewihr about 10 years ago and loved them all. Our river cruise covers the Main, Rhine, and Danube.

We’re really looking forward to seeing places in Germany, like Rothenburg ob der Tauber, among others.

Living just outside Kaysersberg, I think your timing is way too tight to do Strasbourg-Kaysersberg-Strasbourg by public transport. In fact, it might even be impossible, since there aren’t buses every hour between Colmar and KB.

If you don’t want to revisit Colmar, maybe you could visit Sélestat instead—it’s on the same train line. Or one of the villages along the Wine Route that’s directly accessible from Strasbourg? Maybe Obernai or Molsheim, for example?

Or take the train to Offenburg—there are frequent departures, and it’s really nice to visit.

Hi there! I’m doing some research on the places you all recommended. I’ve had a quick look so far, and Sélestat seems really charming and lively, depending on what we’re looking for. Plus, it’s only a convenient 30 minutes from Strasbourg, which is great given the little time we have available. I worked for a month in a ready-to-wear shop in Strasbourg. I visited Haguenau and took part in its big hop festival.

I also explored the Sauer River in Münchhausen with my village association.

It’s important to me to get to know the towns and countryside of my region.

I’ve heard that Sélestat and Colmar are beautiful towns to visit.
