Well! I hope there’ll be some sign enthusiasts... on my end, it’s gonna be a bit tricky, maybe even nonexistent 😅

The catch is there are already tons of discussions on this topic here, so it’s gonna be tricky not to be redundant 😅 But she’s the boss of the month! 😄

No "elephant crossing" signs in your photo collection?😮

Don’t you have any “Route des vins” signs in your photo collection?😇😉

No "elephant crossing" sign in your photo collection?

If I look hard enough, I should be able to find one 😄

Montagnard74 · 2025-09-02

😉You don’t have a single "Wine Route" sign in your photo collection?

Don’t worry, we’ll dig some up. Not sure how to take the fact that you consider Isabelle the queen of wildlife photos and me the king of goofing off

The fruit juice route doesn’t exist! 🤪

The rum route, the wine route, sure! 😏

But you should also have some animal signs up your sleeve. 😉

When you mention wine routes and elephants, I immediately think of South Africa, where we tasted some wine in Franschhoek, a top wine region near Cape Town. That little *pintotage* really reminded us of the country 😉. Okay, it’s not really a sign...

Those Quebecers are crazy... A sign has never spoken to me like that... Or maybe very late at night...

Yeah, but you still have to photograph them 😜

The point of this contest isn't (...) to frantically click the "report" button available on every post in a thread.

A blunt start... 😏

Lesotho isn't for sissies. (local saying)

Bruno from 74, it's not cool to copy off your neighbor from 38—teacher Agnès already told you that 😒

A bold start...

I honestly don’t know where I got this idea from...

Any ideas for an explanation? (Source: Facebook, so take it with a grain of salt.)

Voyou 2, slightly off-topic...

It’s the only sign that the Lesotho police post is there, but you’re right—under “road signs,” I only remembered the spirit behind your point: signage. 😉

The path doesn’t matter; the will to arrive is enough for everything. What’s important is the journey, not the destination. No matter which direction you take, walking leads to what’s essential. What counts is taking the path that suits you...

... Did this path have a heart?

Oh, how interesting! I just assumed (no idea why) that you lived in French-speaking Switzerland. I’ve been cycling in Switzerland for several years now—it takes me about four to five hours to get there, whether it’s St. Margrethen, Romanshorn, Kreuzlingen/Constance, or Schaffhausen. It’s pretty comfortable. I especially love the Graubünden canton. Have a great Sunday, hgb

Hi Hery,

I really love these African posters (or awareness signs). Especially the one above. A bit childlike narrative scenes, expressive drawings, bright colors, displayed in an unexpected but clever way in a rural landscape.

Hello,

Discussion of the September 2025 contest: Signs of the World

Taamaden · 2025-09-09

Good evening Catherine, thanks a lot. I’m really happy you like these signs/posters. And there’s nothing to add to your description—it’s perfect. Personally, I especially love the photo on the topic of "girls' education": the text in Bambara and that girl with a wrap, blue plastic sandals (sooo typical!), and a schoolbag. I really struggle with French terms—whether it’s *panneau*, *affiche*, *plaque*, *pancarte*, *écriteau*, *enseigne*, *étiquette*, *label*, *pannonceau*, *placard*, *plaquette*, *poster*, *vignette*... and finally *panneau d'affichage*. Phew, I’m completely lost in my thoughts …😕 hgb

I really struggle with French terms like panneau, affiche, plaque, pancarte, écriteau, enseigne, étiquette, label, pannonceau, placard, plaquette, poster, vignette...

And to make this task even trickier, you can have fun figuring out all the different meanings of these words ;)

- Labeling people - Falling for a trap - Dumping your fiancée ...

September 2025 Contest Discussion: Signs of the World

Taamaden · 2025-09-10

Aaah, I get it now— labeling people: categorizing someone (putting them in a box), judging falling for it: getting tricked, falling into a trap leaving his fiancée: hm, I know "plaquer" as in "to slick back your hair." Here, does it mean to leave or abandon?! hgb

To follow up on Tylassin’s photo 3 where the top of the swimsuit isn’t optional—well, in Oman, the dress code for swimming is even stricter ☺️

In shopping malls, modest dress is required.
