Booking bus tickets to Valparaiso

Hi there,

Assuming our flight takes off, we’re leaving on September 10th... On the 30th, we need to go to Valparaiso by bus—round trip in one day. I tried booking tickets on either Turbus or Pullman from the Alameda station, but neither site lets us enter our nationality because it’s not listed in the dropdown. Is it really necessary to book the bus tickets online, or can we just grab them the morning of—or even 48 hours ahead at the station? Thanks! Odile

When I was in Chile, I usually booked my buses the day before at the station, sometimes even the same day. Plus, there are buses from Santiago to Valparaiso pretty much every 15 minutes.

Same for us. Lots of buses. Tickets the day before to be sure, but buying on the day itself is doable. Nice walk from the bus station to the city center/port. Happy trails

As others have already mentioned, there’s a high frequency of buses—at least during daytime hours—between the capital and Valparaiso.

Several bus companies operate the route in both directions.

In Santiago, you can catch the bus either at the Alameda bus terminal, which is connected to the Universidad de Santiago metro station, or at the Pajaritos bus terminal, which is linked to the metro station of the same name.

Be aware that buses passing through Pajaritos terminal are sometimes already quite full, since the main departure point is the Alameda bus terminal.

Some buses leave from Terminal Borja, but it’s a bit harder to reach, so I wouldn’t really recommend it.
