Immigration check in Bangkok or Chiang Mai?

hi I’ve got a flight planned for mid-November from Chennai, India, to Chiang Rai with AirAsia via Bangkok, obviously. My question is: where do I go through immigration—Bangkok or Chiang Rai? Thanks in advance, Christian

If you only have a single ticket to Chiang Rai, you’ll go through immigration in Chiang Rai. You’ll just be in transit in Bangkok.

If the arrival terminal in Bangkok is different from the departure terminal for Chiang Rai, the chances of going through immigration checks in Bangkok are high. Either way, I think that’ll be the case. Since you’re setting foot on Thai soil and continuing within the same country, you’re free to take my message into account or not.

Since Tianchris isn't answering my questions, I'll assume they're taking the first option listed on the AirAsia site: flight FD154 Chennai-Bangkok DMK followed by flight FD3199 DMK-Chiang Rai. According to AirAsia, this option is eligible for the Fly-Thru program, which means luggage is checked straight through from the departure airport to the final destination—you don’t pick it up at the layover. In this case, when you arrive at the connecting airport, you don’t go to Immigration or baggage claim but head straight to the transfer lounge.

Based on my research, the conditions for Fly-Thru are: - The connecting airport must be an AirAsia hub (DMK, KUL, BKI, CGK, BKI) - Both flights must have been purchased together - You must inform the check-in agent at the initial departure airport of your choice - If you're coming from a country other than the final destination, that destination must have "international" status (i.e., Immigration and customs services, which Chiang Rai does) to complete entry formalities.

I’ve searched everywhere, but nowhere does it say Fly-Thru is chargeable.

On their site, regarding the flight option mentioned above, AirAsia states: "This is a Fly-Thru flight

hi there just back from my trip. thanks for all the replies. from chennai, it's indeed the AirAsia flight FD 154, and to chiang rai it's FD 3203. both flights bought at the same time. I've got 4 hours between the two flights, so I'll see how it goes when I'm there. my question was just to know which flight number to put on the TDAC. thanks again for your replies. cheers, christian.
