Hello again!
If you'd like to post non-contest photos or chat about this month's theme, this is the place! π

Not part of the contest but coming up soon:
Avoriaz, the PORTES du Soleil area ;)

And congrats on that great win in September!

I’ll always remember a trip to Avoriaz in the middle of July with nearly 20 cm of snow 😮.
I had to buy new shoes 😏

Okay, so it's a door, but I think it's out of the running π and on top of that, it's a door... without a door π
East Gate (I think) of the Angkor Citadel

For me, this isn't off-topic (I wanted to edit my first post but couldn’t access it all day—no matter which path I took, I kept ending up on the same other post π).
Whether open or closed, about the future or the past, reality or imagination... all doors are welcome π.

Personally, I prefer these photos (especially the last two) to the one you entered in the contest π (I have to admit, I have a soft spot for rows of doors π).

Hey Jean-Luc,
If the rest of the station is anything to go by, Maputo station must be really pretty!

The visit is totally worth it. You travel back in time, seeing the working conditions of men and horses...

Beautiful and deserted—a station just how I like them (it leans a bit, but that’s just its age ).
This station is regularly listed among the most beautiful in the world.

Unrelated, but I just realized I’d seen your winning September photo but never mentioned it. I noticed all the votes it got were from women. Now I feel reassured.

When I went to Dublin a long time ago, I didn’t have a camera... luckily others did! the proof
On the other hand, when I went to Greece this winter (for me), I had one and even found a quick method for taking photos.

Oh yeah, the doors of Funchal... a must-see, except even after searching through my Madeira photos, I didn’t take a single one 😅🚪
And it’s the same for pretty much all my recent trips—I didn’t take any classic door photos 😩

Pfft! Easy for you, Muriel, but I don’t just go to nature with animals—except I don’t take photos of doors... doesn’t speak to me 😅

You're right, Muriel—it's best to choose a theme that matches what we photograph so we feel more comfortable and have plenty to discuss 😊. It also pushes others out of their comfort zone 😄.

Wonderful. I'm absolutely thrilled...
This station is regularly cited among the most beautiful in the world.
Maputo Station, a true architectural gem nestled in the heart of Mozambique’s capital, embodies not only the rich and tumultuous history of the region but also serves as a vital hub for travelers exploring the wonders of Southern Africa. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, this station is so much more than just a departure or arrival point—it’s a living work of art, seamlessly blending colonial style with local influences. As you wander through its vast halls and admire its exquisite architectural details, you can almost hear the echoes of the footsteps of travelers who came before you.

First time I’ve managed to log in to the discussion since the start of the month π. Usually, I just get a spinning wheel forever...
I’ve got loads of doors in my photo library too.
Let’s start with the "Gate of Paradise"—that’s what Michelangelo nicknamed the eastern door of Florence’s Baptistery, sculpted by the goldsmith Lorenzo Ghiberti. This is the original, displayed in the stunning Museo dell’Opera del Duomo.

I’ve got Balinese doors, often well-guarded

Venetian doors

Portuguese ones

Dutch ones

And that’s the 10-photo limit per post reached—but I’ve still got tons of photos from India, Italy, and elsewhere. I only picked real doors that close, not arches, which I see more as passageways—otherwise, I’d have way too many!

I can't seem to post in the discussion where we share the contest photos...
Question: Is my photo of a door with the Indian guard off-topic? I thought we were supposed to post photos without people. If it's acceptable, I'll post it in the contest because the door is beautiful and the guard isn't bad either...
New bug—I can't attach the photo (Oops...attached file...), you should find it above!

The door is there, with or without a person π
It’s true that the photo is really beautiful π.
There are a lot of bugs on VF right now—I’ve noticed... yesterday I couldn’t upload photos, and a few days ago I couldn’t access the contest either (no matter what I did, I kept getting redirected back to the discussion).
There’s still time before the contest ends, so we can always hope 🤞—but it’s pretty annoying having to retry things over and over just to get what you want.

The new site managers mentioned they were struggling to find someone with skills on par with François Boucher. On top of that, they now have two sites to manage.
