Travel companion for Mauritania / Senegal in November by 4x4

Hi everyone,
A well-prepped 4x4, a travel plan across Africa in stages since I’ve got kids to see regularly and work to earn a living.
I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. I want to share this rediscovery because two’s better than one!
Just traveling, exploring, and living! !

Hi there! I’m planning the same trip by motorcycle, leaving in early November 2025. You seem to have experience with this route, so I hope you don’t mind me asking:
For the e-visa application, does the planned entry date for Mauritania need to be strictly followed in practice?
What about the return formalities (Mauritania → Morocco border)?
What do you know about the crossing formalities between Mauritania → Senegal and back?
Thanks in advance for your reply!
Best,
Didier

Hi there
How are you? If you're passing through Saint-Louis, Senegal, stop by the city center—Serial would be happy to host you at his place. We’ll spend some time with my family.
Let me know if you need more info.

Hi there,
Sorry, I just saw your message.
For the e-visa, it's newly in place and I don't know much about it. You definitely need it, printed out to present as soon as you leave Morocco.
Once you're there, it's smooth sailing. For Mauritania and Senegal, it's pretty straightforward if you have a carnet de passage. Otherwise, it's a mandatory "passavant" for 250 €.
I haven’t driven back from Mauritania to Morocco, but it’s fairly simple—just requires some patience...
Hang in there.
I’m heading back to Senegal / Côte d'Ivoire soon.
See you maybe on the road.
Jba.

Good evening, thanks for this info. I got back about a week ago after a trip of over a month and 12,000 km all the way to Chinguetti. For the E-visa, I was able to get it at the border in a few hours. After that, it was easy. I came back up through Morocco and was wondering: is it possible to come back through Algeria?
Safe travels to you!

Hello.
When I checked the Mauritanian consulate website, it seemed like I had to apply for the visa online in advance.
So, based on your experience, is it possible to get this visa directly at Guerguerat at the Mauritanian border post?

Hi there,
I managed to get the E-visa at Guerguerat by going to the office inside the last gas station before the border. I did the process in the afternoon, and the visa was ready at 2 AM. If you're unsure, check with the Al Schmokh hotel—they’ll point you to the exact spot, it’s just a few dozen meters away.
Safe travels!

Thanks for the quick reply!
Is this gas station far from the Moroccan border post?
I assume the vehicle papers and passport are enough for this formality?

This station is just a few meters from the border post. A passport is sufficient. The ID photo will be taken on-site.
