Mysore to Cochin Trip

Hi there, it's me again with more questions about Kerala!

I'm thinking of making the trip from Mysore to Cochin by private car (with a driver, of course) in one day. I'd love to get an idea of the price and travel time (and if you know a reliable agency).

Alternatively, maybe it's more interesting to do this trip by bus? I'm worried it might take much longer than with a private car. This will be my first trip to South India, and I'm not really sure about travel times or how easy it is to get around by local buses or trains. Thanks!

The site 12Go shows a base fare of 80 € for a taxi ride lasting 9 hours (a good ten hours, actually) and 11 to 23 € for the bus.

Traveling by bus in India is really straightforward. Private buses are more comfortable, and you just need to book the day before (or even two days ahead) at any private agency or even through your hotel. Public buses are very basic, but no reservation is needed—first come, first served, and they leave when full.

For trains, you usually need to book a bit in advance. If you want to avoid the hassle of buying your ticket at the station, you can also do it through a private agency for a small commission, or sometimes even through your hotel.

In January 2025, long taxi rides (6 to 10 hours on the road) cost us between 60 and 80 €. Most of the time, our accommodations helped us find a vehicle, and it always went smoothly. The bus is a good option too—it takes a bit longer but is cheaper. An overnight bus would save you time. We chose a private vehicle because there were four of us splitting the cost, and we wanted the freedom to stop whenever we liked.
