Situation in Ethiopia for solo travel

Hi, I’d like to travel to Ethiopia as a solo 60-year-old woman, backpacking style, between December 2025 and January 2026. I’m wondering about the current state of the country: unrest, safety concerns, etc. Government websites advise against going, saying it’s too dangerous. But I’m skeptical—they tend to be overly cautious. So I’m looking for reliable information, though I’m not sure where to find it. Thanks in advance!

It’s definitely possible to travel in Ethiopia, but for solo backpackers, it’s actually not recommended. For easier access and safety, it’s better to have local support or a guide.
