If you refuse, they might kick you out of the vehicle, and that’s actually one of the *better* outcomes. Now, what I do isn’t advice—it’s up to you—but I always share the good *and* the bad. That’s why I get criticized on some travel sites. When you take a taxi in Egypt or elsewhere in Arab countries, always make a habit of asking for the fare *and* confirming there are no extra charges before getting in. yes, it does exist—even if they give you a price, it can happen (and often does) that they ask for an amount during the ride that can be as high as the original quote. If you don’t agree, they kick you out of the vehicle, and that’s actually the *least* bad thing they’ll do.

Can you believe what this says about tourism and travel in Egypt? You’re basically telling us there’s no shame in taking advantage of travelers through apps that are globally known for their reliability?

But yes, I’m not blaming Uber (though ??), but rather those who don’t respect its usage rules, because these practices do exist. Beyond the price the app shows you, *read carefully* what I wrote. And it’s not just with Uber that these kinds of issues happen—ever since the Egyptian government started requiring foreigners to pay by credit card, things have spiraled out of control for everything. I’ve known for a while that prices were higher for foreigners than locals (4 times more expensive), and I’ve always accepted that. Though in Luxor, since we often went to the same shops and places, we got local prices. But now, it’s almost impossible, so if I don’t agree with a price, I refuse—just like with anything else.
