Prices for domestic flight Krabi-Chiang Mai
Morlaix · 2025-11-08
Hi everyone, I’m planning a trip to Thailand.
Since we’ll only be there for two and a half weeks, we want to visit the Krabi area and then Chiang Mai. So we won’t take the train—it’s too long in terms of travel time. We’re wondering if it’s more worthwhile to buy the flight tickets on the spot? If so, is the price difference really significant? From what I see on online booking sites, you’re looking at between 35 and 60 € per person for a Krabi/Chiang Mai route.

Hi,
Only AirAsia offers direct flights (3/day), and they’re within the price range you mentioned. If there’s a price difference, it probably won’t be significant enough to justify waiting until you arrive to buy them—and risk the flights being fully booked (avoid flying on weekends).

Thanks for the reply. Regarding airlines, I’m not looking at posts, but these are from 2016. Basically, which airline is decent?

Domestic flights are pretty cheap depending on the time of year. If you book 4-5 months in advance, you’ll get the best price. Prices are the same in person as they are on the websites.

I booked almost a year in advance—that’s when I got the best fares on AirAsia.

The other reason to prefer a direct flight is that by train, it’d cost you the same price (from 43 to 54 € per person for 2 nights in an air-conditioned 2nd-class sleeper), and you’d still have to add the cost of the Krabi-Surat Thani bus and expenses for the day of transit in Bangkok...
