Choosing an itinerary for a week in Morocco at 6 months pregnant

We’re leaving at the end of December (30th) until the beginning of January (6th) with my partner. I’ll be 6 months pregnant. We’d like to rent a car as soon as we arrive in Marrakesh but don’t want to stay there for New Year’s. We prefer the quiet of nature and remote villages. We’re planning to spend 2 days in Marrakesh before our return flight on the 6th.

What itinerary would you recommend to get off the beaten path, avoid overly touristy areas, and discover the palm groves, desert, and this region of Morocco—without overdoing it, given the advanced pregnancy? Thanks so much,

To enjoy palm groves, villages, and the desert, 4 days is a bit tight considering the wide range of things you’d like to do! Here’s an idea—not exactly off the beaten path, but it covers your wishes, and at this time of year, you won’t run into many people:

Leave Marrakech early, arrive in Skoura (palm grove) by midday. 1 night in Skoura. Leave Skoura early afternoon, arrive in Merzouga (desert) by late afternoon. 1 night in a Berber tent in the desert (or a hostel on the edge of the Erg Chebbi). Leave Merzouga early, arrive in Aït Ben Haddou (fortified clay village) by early afternoon. 1 night in Aït Ben Haddou. Return to Marrakech.

And don’t forget, Morocco is generally a hot country, but not everywhere or all year round! Temperatures can drop below zero, especially in the desert at night.
