Issue with Tanzania visa application website
Fanie75 · 2025-11-16
Hi,
We're heading to Zanzibar in 6 weeks.
I've been stuck for several days on the website
https://visa.immigration.go.tz/ because we need to specify whether we're employed or self-employed, but the "employer" and "profession" fields are grayed out. It's a roadblock—I can't move on to the next step.
I thought it might be a temporary bug, but that's not the case.
I've tried filling out the form on my computer using two different browsers, on my phone, but I keep getting stuck at the same step.
I emailed their contact address but haven't heard back.
Has this happened to any of you?
I don't know how to resolve this issue, especially to get our visas before our departure.
Thanks for your help.
Stéphanie

Hi there,
I just tried it to test it out and didn’t run into this issue. Try again later on a different laptop and make sure there are no missing details or mistakes—it should work.
Worst case, you can always get the visa on arrival. That’s what I do every time personally.

Hi,
Here’s what our agency (Big Cats) told us about filling out this section:
No problem.
Employment: Employment status: fill in either “employed” if you’re employed, “self-employed” if you work for yourself, or “unemployed” if you’re retired, a minor, or jobless.
Click “Save and continue.”

At worst, anyway, you’ll get the visa on arrival. That’s what I do every time for my part
You’re assuming their nationality doesn’t require a visa before departure.
I’ve never arrived in Zanzibar from an international flight, but honestly, in DAR depending on the arrival time (like not in the middle of the night 😛), it’s better to have your visa before boarding... Because the 1.5-hour wait was anything but "fun" .

Yes, fair enough, I assume a nationality that allows it (but still, that’s a lot of nationalities).
Personally, I’ve never gotten the visa in advance. Always done it on arrival without it ever taking much time in Dar, Zanzibar, or Arusha.

Yes, indeed, I assume a nationality that allows it (but still, a lot of nationalities).
For my part, I’ve never gotten the visa in advance. Always done it on arrival without it ever taking much time in Dar, Zanzibar, or Arusha.
In Arusha, there’s hardly any traffic, which makes sense.
What time of day was it for DAR and ZNZ?

In Dar/Zzb, it was late in the evening or even later. Since a lot of people already have their visa and there are also all the citizens and residents, I never saw huge crowds for the visa
