Looking for partner(s) for the Three Passes trek and two 6000m peaks in Nepal

I’m putting together my next trek project for the Khumbu Valley.

I was there this year in October-November and would love to go back, ideally in November 2026.

I’m planning the Three Passes trek, including the ascent of Lobuche and Island Peak. The intermediate summits like Gokyo Ri and Kala Patthar will also be part of the adventure.

I’ve already requested a quote from the agency I used this year. Prices vary depending on the number of people. To be honest, going solo with a guide and a porter costs me (excluding the FRANCE-NEPAL flight) 3200 € + $990 extra for the guide (insurance, bonuses). With two people, the price drops to 3000 €, and the $990 disappears. That suddenly makes it much more affordable.

I’d love to go with one or more other people for several reasons. The cost, of course, but also—and most importantly—because it’s way more fun to share this kind of adventure.

Just to clarify, I know this agency well. They’re very professional, French-speaking, and handle any issues that come up. It’s been tested and approved. The ideal time is really November. This year, we had a late monsoon when we left at the end of October, followed by exceptional weather. But a late monsoon means snow—Gokyo was completely snowed in, and the passes were extremely tricky.

The ideal timing is a full month door-to-door, so from France back to France.

Don’t hesitate—there’s plenty of time. I’m just planning to confirm the trip during the winter, around February/March 2026.

Since you’ll pass through Renjo La (5,350m) one way or another, Gokyo Ri doesn’t hold much interest in my opinion. The view of Everest is similar. It’s better to spend a day hiking up the Ngozumpa Glacier moraine to the last lake (5th or 6th one?). For me, it’s more beautiful than Kala Patthar and, most importantly, much less crowded.

Yes, that's a possibility. It's certain that climbing up to Cho Oyu Base Camp is more intimate than the ascent to Gokyo Ri. I admit there were really a lot of people on the climb. So I'll keep that in mind because time-wise, it doesn't change much. It would still fit into my acclimatization day in Gokyo.

I see some useful points in Gokyo Ri, though: - a climb to 5350m that clearly helps with acclimatization, even if the ascent to Renjo La will have already allowed us to face that altitude. - a 360° view with Cho Oyu and Everest, as well as a beautiful view of Gokyo and its lake.

Nothing is completely set in stone in my itinerary. I know that crossing the 3 passes in this direction is more interesting for me because I prefer to look up and see Everest or Ama Dablam in front of me rather than having to turn around. And in this direction, the acclimatization phase is also more gradual, especially since the targeted 6000m peaks are then rather at the end of the trek.

Yeah, but you get that from Renjo La too.

I did it (late February, early March) in the direction of Renjo La → Cho La → Kongma La. Personally, on the first part from Namche to Renjo La/Gokyo, I didn’t meet anyone going this way and only crossed paths with 2 or 3 people coming from the opposite direction. Once in the Dudh Kosi Valley toward Everest Base Camp: way more people.

We went up this year via Machermo. It was busy, but not too bad once past Namche. I really want to do the Three Passes trek no matter what.

I’ll see if anyone’s interested in this trek, though we’re a year ahead… so not sure many people are planning that far in advance. But nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Good to know about the view from Renjo. I thought it was a bit more remote, so I assumed the view of Gokyo Lake was only partial. Thanks
