Difference Between ETA and E-Visa for India

I’ve received my e-visa for India. Now, if I understand correctly, I need to confirm the status of my ETA. Is the ETA the same as the e-visa? Do I need to print the document? Thanks

The ETA is basically the authorization document that allows you to get your visa at the airport. I can’t remember if you need to print it out or if a digital version is enough, but personally, I print it and feel safer doing it that way. I don’t recall the exact process in detail, but I think it’s the consulate that decides whether to confirm the ETA status—unless I misunderstood what you meant. That said, if they ask for confirmation of the status, it seems obvious to me that you should do it. What would be the point of refusing to confirm an "accepted" status other than risking being denied entry?

Once your application is approved, the document is sent digitally via email to the address you provided when applying. After that, you just need to print it out.

Don’t forget to apply for the e-Arrival Card—it’s a digital arrival declaration, separate from the visa, and must be submitted within 72 hours before arrival (in effect since October 2025).

If you forgot to print it out, no worries. The relevant service receives the information at the same time as you do. I was informed by the immigration officer when I left Chennai a week ago.

All you had to do was download or take a screenshot and save it in a folder. When you receive the acceptance, a copy is sent to the immigration service in Chennai. When they scan your passport, they find it automatically. I learned this during a conversation with an employee.
