Feedback on West American Itinerary

Coco3826 · 2025-12-21

Hello,

After our first trip to the West, we’d love to go back to see other must-see spots!

The stay would be from May 11 to 20, 2026—it’s short, but hey...

M11: Lyon to Las Vegas (overnight in Vegas) T12: Route 66 – overnight in Grand Canyon (GC) W13: Visit GC – overnight in Page Th14: Visit Antelope Canyon / Horseshoe Bend – overnight in Monument Valley (MV) F15: Visit MV – overnight in Moab Sa16: Visit Arches / Dead Horse Point – overnight in Bryce Su17: Visit Bryce – overnight in Zion M18: Visit Zion / Valley of Fire – overnight in Vegas Tu19: Return flight

What do you think? Could we add one more night somewhere? We’re not big hikers, so we’ll mostly explore the parks using shuttles.

Also, we’re all set—passports are good. Do you think one classic Visa card and one premium Visa card will be enough for coverage?

Thanks so much for your feedback, and happy holidays!

Christophe

Hi there, For me, this is way too rushed, and day 16 is unrealistic. If there’s one day to add, it’s in Moab. You’ll miss so much, especially between Moab and Bryce...

The loop you’re planning should take at least 10 days, in my opinion.

But am I wrong or are you kinda doing the same thing as on your first trip?

Good evening and thank you so much for your replies! Actually, during our last trip, we finally opted for a San Francisco / Los Angeles loop... I had a feeling we’d need a second night in Moab—I’ll make a note of that. Since we’re not big hikers, I even wondered if it was worth going all the way there, but then I thought it’d be a shame not to! We *could* add two more nights starting May 9th, but that’d mean arriving in Vegas on a weekend, and I’ve read so much about hotel rooms being crazy expensive on weekends that I gave up—maybe a mistake? Best regards, Christophe

Hi again, just checked Booking and found some really reasonable prices (between 70 and 150 € per night) if I arrive on Sunday the 9th, or even Saturday the 8th. So I think I’ll add 2 extra days to the trip... one extra day in Moab as you suggested, and the other? Route 66?

Best, Christophe

Good evening, For the second night to add, I’d split the drive between Moab and Bryce Canyon. Torrey is really well located, and there’s so much to see in the area.

I confirm, as mentioned by Cedk03, around Torrey. Really nice and quite a few things to see. What kind of car will you have?... Just to know if it’ll get through certain spots.

With a tight schedule and if you're focusing on Page, sticking to Horseshoe Bend and one of the two Antelope Canyons—without heading to the lake and marina—you can do this on the 14th: Head to Horseshoe early in the morning (there isn’t really a "best" time to visit). Then move on to one of the two Antelope Canyons from mid to late morning, hit the road for Monument Valley, and do the scenic drive before it closes. That’ll leave you a little time afterward to get an overview from the terrace of The View Hotel’s shop, which is open to everyone.

It’s fast-paced, but doable.

Thanks for the details—it was kind of my idea too! Since Horsebend and Antelope don’t take too much time to visit, having the chance to head over to MV and explore sounds great. Could you confirm this is doable, Christophe?

Hi there, If you have the time and it fits your route, between Torrey and Moab, there’s a small state park called GOBLIN. Super unique formations in terms of their number and shapes... About 1 hour 30 minutes from Torrey, on the left when heading to Moab. Have a great day and happy New Year!

Hi there,

I did a trip roughly along the same lines but in 15 days. (See here)

Even for a non-hiker, I’d add one night in Moab and one in Torrey. Otherwise, it’s more than a rush.
