Best order to explore Normandy without spending too much time on the road?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a trip to Normandy and, after reading quite a few posts here, I still have some questions about the most logical order to avoid spending too much time on the road.

The idea is to have a fairly smooth itinerary, taking the time to enjoy the places, over about ten days (possibly a little more), combining the coast and the inland areas.

I’m particularly wondering about: – The best starting point (starting with Mont-Saint-Michel or saving it for the end) – The balance between the coastline and more inland areas – The areas where it’s really worth slowing down the pace

If any of you have done a route that felt particularly coherent, your feedback would really help me fine-tune the planning.

In the end, starting in the east (Rouen / Honfleur), then gradually heading down to the D-Day beaches and saving Mont-Saint-Michel for last seems more logical. If your travel dates allow, scheduling Mont Saint-Michel on a day with a high tide is a great bonus. Don’t miss admiring it from the polders, and especially wake up early to walk across the footbridge.

Rouen is a beautiful city, Jumièges has interesting ruins, and Honfleur is cute but avoid weekends. I quite like Cabourg.

Étretat or any other cliffs near Dieppe are also part of Normandy’s charm.

Caen didn’t leave me with an unforgettable memory.

Yes, the same goes for Le Havre.

Rouen also suffered heavy bombing, but the old town center was preserved. Some neighborhoods are pure post-war reconstruction, though. The priority was to rehouse people quickly, and the result isn’t great aesthetically...

The "lucky break" for Le Havre is that its post-war architecture has been listed!
