Boat from Bali Padangbai to Lombok Senggigi

Hi there, We're planning our trip to Indonesia and want to take the boat to get from Bali (Padangbai) to Lombok (Senggigi). We found a ticket via the 12go.asia website with EKAJAYA Fast Company. From what I understand, the baggage weight limit is 20 kg per person for the boat. However, we’ll have 2 checked suitcases (from our flight) that should weigh around 30 kg since that’s the max allowed due to our diving gear, etc. Do they actually weigh the luggage? What happens if our bags exceed the weight limit? Extra charge? Have any of you dealt with this situation before?

I’m afraid I might be misunderstanding: are you really traveling with 60 kg of luggage for two??? I’m shocked! I’ve never had to deal with excess baggage weight before, but I doubt they’ll leave you on the dock—worst case, you’ll pay a supplement.

I don’t have an opinion on the time in relation to the sea conditions. I’d rather base it on the city where you spent the night. Note that Eka Jaya offers an additional* shuttle and taxi service from several cities on the island before boarding. In that case, maybe the 12:30 departure could save you a transit night in Padangbai.

*Example from Ubud: shared shuttle for $12 p/p, or $33.50 total for a private car.

Honestly, they almost never weigh luggage on this route. I've taken Ekajaya several times between Padangbai and Seniggi, and frankly, the guys at boarding don’t really care. They’ll check if you don’t have something oversized like a trunk, but otherwise, your two 30kg suitcases? No problem at all. It’s not like airlines that hassle you over 100 extra grams.

Personally, the only time I saw someone get stopped was a guy with a huge diving case—like a coffin, completely insane. But normal suitcases, even if they’re packed full, honestly, just go for it.

That said, be careful—from what I remember, the limit is more for cabin baggage than the boat’s hold. Plus, the weather conditions there can be unpredictable, so sometimes they refuse people with too much luggage just because of rough seas, and safety takes priority over actual weight. Double-check when you book to be sure.

Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend exceeding 50kg total per person, but honestly, with 30kg, you’re golden. And I’ve never heard of an overweight fee on this route. It’s not like flights in Indonesia—they just ask you not to go overboard.

I’d recommend waiting until you’re on-site to buy your tickets. Just ask your host (hotel or guesthouse) or check with a local agency.

You’ll get all the schedules along with details about luggage—though I’ve never had to weigh my bags on any ferry or speedboat crossing in Indonesia. Plus, you can book with a company that’ll pick you up from your accommodation for the same price.

Hi there. You could travel lighter. We just got back from a month in the Dominican Republic with just 32 kg for two masks and snorkels. Plus, my suitcase was inside my husband’s for the return trip. We could’ve packed even less.

The Gilis and Trawangan are amazing for turtles and all, but bring earplugs—there are now three mosques on Meno and Air, and the coral areas have the same issue. They’re *very* early risers.
