Korgaljyn (Kazakhstan): guided tour for bird photography

Gene02 · 2026-04-01

Hi there, I’d like to spend 2–3 days in the Korgaljyn area in May to photograph flamingos and other birds. I’ll be in Astana and I’m looking for a tour that includes accommodation so I can stay for 2 days. I’ve found the buses from Astana and info about the park’s facilities, but no accommodation or guided outings. Has anyone done this? Thanks for your help

We had planned to do it in 2024 but, like you, didn’t really find a good option and didn’t want to have to drive all the way back to the capital with our rental car. In the end, we went to Borovoye instead—it’s very touristy. Sorry I couldn’t help with your question.

Hi there,

I might not be much help, but could you please tell me where this park is? I think I could make it there in late summer. Thanks!

Ppppfffftt ... these adventurers who can’t read a map ... well, we’re in trouble for this summer 😏😏😏

So, since I wouldn’t want you to risk getting lost ... I’ll give you a picture of the map of the area ... it’s well before Astana when coming directly from our place ... though I assume you’re not crossing the UK ... 😉

In this small country, it's easy to get lost quickly! 😊

Hello, Well, you know me and my sense of direction...😉 I’ve never been through there—actually, every time I came back via Uzbekistan. Still not tempted? We’re leaving from France on July 15th. I’ll tell you the reason for my delay in a PM. I’ll bring a 300mm lens for bird photos—the 80/600mm Z-mount is a bit pricey... Thanks for the map! Thierry
