Hey there!

This is the spot where we can chill and chat about fishing at sea worldwide 😊

Here are two charming fishermen taking a well-deserved break near Zanzibar!

Hi there, and congrats on your win! ๐Ÿ™‚

The theme around "pรชche" (peaches/freshness) has been covered twice before—once in January 2020 and more recently in April 2025. Hope we can bring something new to the table! Personally, I’m heading to the "Escale ร  Sรจte" event this Sunday. Perfect timing, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hello and congrats on your win! ๐Ÿ™‚

The theme around fishing was covered twice, in January 2020 and more recently in April 2025. Hope we can come up with something fresh! Personally, I’m heading to the "Escale ร  Sรจte" event this Sunday. Perfect timing, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ugh, I didn’t have the full list of themes when I picked mine—2020’s is too old for me to remember, and in April 2025, I hadn’t even gotten back on VF yet...๐Ÿ˜• It’s kinda funny that fishing was also April’s theme last year... Guess it’s becoming the April Fools’ running joke for the contest ๐Ÿ˜

Still, the theme’s broad enough for everyone to dig into their stash ๐Ÿ˜‰

A few pics from a fishing trip return in Guilvinec, France’s top artisanal fishing port. A hit with kids and adults alike, especially with a visit to the fish auction right after.

In this Roman mosaic at the Archaeological Museum of Sousse in Tunisia, you can see the different fishing techniques of the time. The photo isn’t great, but the mosaic is really beautiful, just like all the others in this museum:

There are other fishing scenes and even the God of the Sea:

At Tunis’s bustling Central Market, the fishmongers’ section is the liveliest spot, with all kinds of fish—including live eels:

In this Casa de Yemanja in Rio Vermelho, Salvador da Bahia, fishermen have set up an altar for Yemanja, the orixร  of the sea and protector of fishermen. Inside, you’ll find everything related to the sea and fishing: fishing nets, beads, seashells, boats, and more... It’s a pretty surprising place—people light candles and reflect in front of the representations of this orixร . In February, an important festival takes place with offerings to the sea.

Ugh, I didn’t have the list of all the themes when I started mine, the 2020 one is too old for me to remember, but in April 2025 I hadn’t come back to VF yet...๐Ÿ˜•

It’s not at all easy to find a theme that hasn’t been suggested before... but now that we have the list of themes thanks to Xavier, we can check (or pick ideas from the old themes ๐Ÿ˜‡).

Well, I don’t fish, I rarely go to fishing ports and not very often to the sea, so I won’t have many files to go through ๐Ÿ˜Ž. Meanwhile, for those who might still be hungry after Agnรจs’s dish...

You’ll find the Yemanja from Brazilian Candomblรฉ in Cuban Santerรญa too, especially in Regla—a small town across from Havana that you can reach by boat—where she’s worshipped alongside the Virgin Mary. Yemaya is an orisha associated with the Black Virgin of Regla, Our Lady of Regla.

Here, too, you see elements tied to the sea and fishing since she’s the patron saint of sailors. People dress in blue or white, and many enter the church with dolls dressed in blue.

A plaque commemorates the African (Yoruba) origins of this tradition. The photos are from 2015.

Hello everyone,

Personally, this April 2026, I have to admit I’m not feeling "peppy" at all :8

But these guys are totally into it every day... or rather, into action!

Whatever the method, it’s the result that counts... ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great weekend and lots of chocolate treats...!!!

Cheers, Puma2A

Your photos, where are they from?

Hi there,

It doesn’t really matter—the theme of the discussion is what counts! The spoonbill is at the Arcachon Basin (Rรฉserve du Teich), and the other images are from Lake Manze in Tanzania (Check out my travel journal for Mikumi and Selous).

Happy exploring!

Of course ๐Ÿ˜‰... but I also think of the Cotentin, a little-known region in Normandy—authentic and relaxing—where I stop by every summer. It has long wild beaches lined with dunes, where fishermen—whether pros or weekenders—bring their boats ashore by tractor at high tide.

Why do people who talk about Myanmar always seem to do so with a touch of nostalgia? Is it because the country is currently inaccessible? I also have a very clear memory of Ngapali...

For me, it’s one of the few countries I left thinking, "I’ll be back." I think it’s a lost cause now ๐Ÿ˜•

Hey everyone!

Let’s keep the journey going...

Here are some really strange-looking boats I photographed on a beach in Hoi An, Vietnam... They definitely piqued my curiosity, but once they were in the water, I realized they’re actually fishing boats... "Basket boats" launched from the beach for coastal fishing. Too bad I didn’t snap a photo of one at sea... For more info: https://www.tonkinvoyage.com/vietnam-guide-de-voyage/la-peche-en-bateau-panier-vietnam.html

I saw these same boats in Phu Quoc.

To haul in the nets cast from these "boats," the fishermen worked from the beach by turning these machines.

Yeah, but I think the theme specified that it could also include fish stalls or anything loosely related to sea fishing, right?

Yes, I confirm. The theme is sea fishing (to be distinguished from freshwater fishing). So anything related to it ๐Ÿ˜‰, whether before, during, or after fishing ๐Ÿ™‚

Good evening,

A kind of dangerous beauty that smells of tar, rum, and stories impossible to verify...

And the open sea breeze, their spray, and the scattered salt on your skin... But not too much fish!

The series is magnificent, thanks for sharing it here.
