Vehicle registered under one person and insurance under another for a trip to Asia

We’re planning a 4x4 trip from Belgium to Central Asia, passing through Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

For these countries, our national insurance obviously doesn’t cover the vehicle, so we’ll need to get local insurance.

Will it be a problem if the vehicle is registered under person A and the national insurance is under person B? Both A and B will be in the vehicle, and both will be listed as drivers on the insurance.

When we get the local insurance, if we again list A and B as drivers, does the order matter? Could we get stuck at the border for this reason?

Hi there, No real clear idea, but "local" insurance policies are usually written by locals, in the local language, and everything’s in Cyrillic or not... 😏 To keep it simple: you sign, you pay, and you leave with a paper that serves as an insurance certificate—just in case... well, really, in case it’s ever asked for. There’s hardly any insurance checks when crossing these countries (same as here...), it’s only if an accident happens that you’ll find out... whether you’re actually covered or not... So, all that to say: just go to an insurance office, usually right after the border crossing, hand over the vehicle’s registration papers, and the person in charge will give you a document proving you’ve got insurance for the vehicle on the registration you provided... now, what exactly the insurance covers... well, you’ll have to trust Google Translate for that...
